Biocomposites

The work in this area mainly involves so-called wood plastic composites (WPCs) for the use in outdoor and indoor building and joinery applications and in furniture. Fundamental aspects of material composition features are studied, as well as further development and optimization of products and processes. For outdoor applications WPCs may be produced from modified fibers or residuals from modified wood production. The expected achievements of this integrated project are industrially viable eco-efficient and durable biocomposites. Life cycle assessment studies will also be performed.

Various types of products are addressed in several projects within this research area. Each project is coordinated by a leader, recruited from one of the participating industries, from a university or from a research institute.
