Biobased Coatings

The work in this area mainly involves new types of eco-efficient coating systems, especially for exterior wood products and for modified wood. The coating surfaces, coating-substrate interfaces and interphases, extracts of coating films are evaluated with e.g. magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of moisture profiles, UV/Vis, FTIR and GC-MS spectroscopy. Such analyses are also combined with accelerated ageing and field testing activities.

Various types of products are addressed in several projects within this research area. Each project is coordinated by a leader, recruited from one of the participating industries, from a university or from a research institute.
